HSDC’s Games Design Students Explore Japan

July 22, 2026

HSDC is excited to celebrate the College’s most recent Turing Trip, which saw 15 students and four members of staff visit Japan for an inspirational two-week educational visit.

The international mobility programme provided learners with a unique opportunity to develop their technical knowledge in Electronic Games Design while experiencing one of the world’s most innovative and culturally rich countries. Over two weeks, students immersed themselves in Japanese culture, explored the vibrant metropolis of Tokyo, and gained first-hand insight into the country’s renowned creativity and technological innovation.

Throughout the visit, students participated in workshops, enrichment activities, guided tours, and industry visits. The programme combined exposure to cutting-edge technologies and coding software relevant to the games industry with opportunities to explore Japanese-inspired illustration, digital art, and animation techniques. Alongside these academic experiences, students visited historic landmarks, museums, and local communities, broadening their cultural understanding while developing confidence, resilience, independence, and a global perspective.

Julio Carrillo, Turing Scheme Coordinator at HSDC and leader of the expedition, said:

“International experiences like this encourage young people to step beyond their comfort zones and discover what they are truly capable of. Although our students returned with valuable technical knowledge and industry insights, their greatest achievement was their personal growth. They represented HSDC with professionalism, curiosity, and respect, creating friendships and memories that will stay with them for a lifetime.”

The visit also strengthened HSDC’s international partnerships, laying the foundations for future collaboration with Japanese educational institutions and industry partners.

This mobility forms part of HSDC’s wider commitment to providing world-class international learning opportunities that broaden horizons, raise aspirations, and equip learners with the skills, confidence, and global outlook needed to thrive in an interconnected world. The visit also marks an important milestone for the College, representing HSDC’s first educational delegation to Japan and further strengthening its growing international profile.
