Photography Students Capture History During Windsor Castle Visit

October 19, 2026

A Level Photography students from Havant Sixth Form College enjoyed a unique opportunity to explore Windsor Castle, gaining inspiration from centuries of photographic history while developing their own creative skills.

During the visit students took part in a special Photography Day organised by Windsor Castle’s Learning Centre, which offered a fascinating insight into the Royal Collection and the history of Photography.

The day began with a visit to the castle’s iconic Round Tower, where students explored a selection of historic photographs presented by the curator of the photographic collection.

Among the pieces on display was an early photographic print by William Henry Fox Talbot, one of the pioneers of photography, giving students the chance to see an important part of history up close.

Following the tour, students put their own photography skills into practice during a photographic walk around the castle grounds. The experience gave them a rare opportunity to explore and photograph areas of Windsor Castle that are not normally accessible to the public.

Trips like these form an important part of the A Level Photography course at Havant Sixth Form College, where students are encouraged to explore a range of photographic techniques, from traditional and contemporary practices to portraiture, landscapes and experimental imagery.

Through visits to galleries, exhibitions and inspiring locations, students can develop their creative confidence and gain valuable experience beyond the classroom
