We are so proud to be part of the wonderful city of Portsmouth with over 1,000 students from the city studying with us every day and over 350 of our amazing HSDC staff living in Portsmouth. We work with employers and schools all over the city, we are a patron of Shaping Portsmouth, a not-for-profit company whose vision is to make Portsmouth the UK’s number one city, and two ex-students of ours co-founded the award-winning Victorious Festival, which generated £12.5m for the city in 2019 and which has donated over £330,000 for good causes in and around the city too.
There is plenty of choice for education and training in Portsmouth, but here are some facts to explain why we’re the best college for Portsmouth…
We were the only college in the region chosen to launch all three of the first T Levels in September 2020 and following their success we now have over 200 students studying T Levels with us. We have had significant investment into new facilities and resources to support this, including £4 million in government funding. Our impressive nursing facilities, complete with hospital ward, mocked-up apartment and brand-new labs gained significant acclaim when they made the front page of The News Portsmouth. We have been recognised nationally, with our staff and students speaking at a wide range of events and meeting with both industry leaders and educational experts about the new qualifications. With T Levels available at HSDC in construction, digital, engineering and business careers (and lots more!), there is simply no better choice locally for an A Level equivalent route to your future career.
The latest official data shows that our students perform better than at any other college in the city, simply achieving the best grades locally. Find out more on the gov.uk website on school performance.
No other college in the city offers such a wide range of education and training courses, from full time, part time, A Levels, T Levels and Apprenticeships at all levels, including Higher Education.
The latest official data shows that our students are more likely to recommend HSDC as a college compared to students at other colleges in the area. Further official data shows that they are more likely to progress successfully to higher education or employment too. Take a look at the gov.uk Destinations data and Learner Satisfaction data.
According to employer reviews, businesses who work with us rate us higher than those working with other colleges in the city. We are rated excellent on gov.uk, with employers highlighting our strengths in getting new apprentices started, improving apprentice skills and initial assessment of apprentices.
We think all of this information, coupled with our focus on realising the ambitions of our community – raising aspirations, enabling achievement and fulfilling dreams – shows why we’re the best college for Portsmouth.
