Course Start Dates: September and February (Tuesday Evening) The Level 2 Certificate in Barbering is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in the creative art of cutting men’s hair, the specialist work of cutting facial hair and how to offer a good consultation service for clients. Whilst studying barbering here at HSDC, you will develop and enhance your creative talents and create the latest hairstyles for a range of clients. You will also cover theory units of health and safety, client consultation helping develop customer service skills and salon industry expectations. This qualification is funded and can be accessed for free! There may be additonal costs, please see the section below.
You will ideally need Functional Skills English at Level 1, or GCSE English at a D/3. Other qualifications, such as Level 1 qualifications in the same field, may be accepted. If you are unsure, please email adult.learning@hsdc.ac.uk for further support. Please note that you must be aged 18 or over to study this Adult Learning course.
Units covered on this course include:- Following health and safety practice in the salon – Client consultation for hair services – Cut facial hair – Cut men’s hair Course Duration: 17 weeks
You will be taught in our Salon 74 by lecturers who have extensive salon experience. You will work on blocks to begin with and once you have gained your skills, you will begin to work on clients once you are confident. Theory will be delivered in a classroom environment. Once the theory units have been delivered, you will undertake unit exams (short answer tests) that will test your knowledge. You will need a uniform and a kit to help you on this course. We will support you to gain valuable industry practice. The Salon 74 is a fantastic facility, providing you with a realistic salon environment to develop your skills and perfect your craft.
You will be assessed internally. There are theory exams which are externally set and externally marked. There are practical assessments which are internally set, internally marked and externally verified.
This Level 2 qualification is funded and can be accessed for free! However, this course requires you to purchase a Barbering kit. This kit will include all the tools needed for each unit and some students in receipt of financial assistance may be able to reclaim some/all of the cost of the kit. A few of the possible routes after completing your Level 2 Barbering could be Level 3 Barbering, Level 2 Women's Hairdressing, an Apprenticeship in barbering or employment in a barbers.
