IT is now embedded in our society and is a vital part of industries, as diverse as entertainment, banking, manufacturing and leisure. The growth in IT services, networking and data management is a key feature in global economies and the IT job market remains strong. If you are interested in a career in IT or a related field, then this two year programme will give you a good understanding across a broad range of IT specialisms.

Availability & Details
Students should normally have achieved at least five GCSEs at grade 9-4. Alternatively, if you have studied at Level 2, you should have achieved a merit or above.
At HSDC Alton on the BTEC National Extended Diploma in IT you will study:
- Communication and Employability Skills for IT
- Computer Systems and maintaining computer systems
- Information Systems
- Organisational Systems Security
- Computer Networks
- Systems Analysis and Design
- Relational Database Design and Development
- Computer Game Development
- Human-Computer Interfaces
- Digital Graphics
Lessons will take place in our specialist IT centre and will comprise a mix of theoretical and practical sessions. A selection of assignments and homework tasks will be set to cover the unit content. The assignments may be practical, research-based or theoretical and may be linked to a period of work experience.

An Extended Diploma in IT allows for progression after HSDC Alton to degree courses in - Information Technology and Technology Solutions, IT Management for Business, Computer Networks, Security, Business Computing, Forensic Computing, Network Technologies. You can also progress to ICT related Apprenticeships or straight into employment in a variety of ICT industries.
In November, during your second academic year, there is a two week work placement period available to you on the course. Previous placements have included Cato Computers, Qinetiq Security, Leidos Innovations and many others.
