Overview

This two-year course has been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses to meet the needs of industry and preparing you for the world of work. Employers involved in designing the T Level in Digital Production, Design & Development include Fujitsu, IBM and Cap Gemini.

You will need five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language and Mathematics.

Year one:

Students will be introduced to computer programming in Python where they will work on a series of mini projects to develop their problem-solving and analysis skills to identify solutions that can be developed into computer programs. Students will be expected to solve realistic problems and understand their business context. Students will also gain an appreciation of emerging technology and innovation and the legislation that surrounds the Digital sector. Data analysis is introduced as well as consideration of Digital environments such as physical, virtual and cloud.

Year two:

The second year will see students taking on larger software development projects where within a business context they will gain the skills to produce a proposal for their own digital solution identifying risks, functional, and nonfunctional requirements. To meet their proposed requirements students will then create technical designs for their user interfaces, data and algorithms.

Students will then further develop their programming skills to build and test their proposed application using a variety of software whilst gaining an understanding of user and technical requirements.

Exam, industrial placement, work-based project, synoptic assessment.

On successful completion of this course, you could progress directly into employment, begin further study with digital-related degree programmes or specialisms like cyber security. Progression could include roles such as:

  • Apprentice Software Developer
  • Apprentice Automated Test Developer
  • Apprentice Digital Project Manager
  • IT Support technician

Students have also progressed onto Degrees to study computer science, AI and software Engineering.
