QuestionAnswer
Why is this process changing? We know that learners and parents expect a quick response when making post-16 decisions. Schools have also told us that students benefit most when they can speak directly with subject teachers about their course choices.

The new approach allows us to:
Reduce waiting times
• Give students earlier guidance
• Provide regular opportunities for students to speak with teachers

Our aim is that students should be able to access an interview opportunity within two weeks of applying.
When do the new interview sessions start?Weekly interview sessions at Alton College are starting 18 March.

Havant & South Downs Campuses are starting from 15 April.

The college will run interview sessions every Wednesday during term time from 4pm – 6pm, continuing through to 17 June.

Students can choose to book either online interviews, or face-to-face, both options are bookable in the same way and run during the same Wednesday 4pm – 6pm sessions.
What are the interview options?Face-to-face interviews take place on campus.
These interviews allow students to:
Meet one of their subject teachers in person
Visit the campus and facilities
Ask questions about college life, courses and progression
Receive guidance on subject choices

Online interviews allow students to speak with a subject teacher remotely.
These interviews allow students to:
Attend from home with a parent or carer if they wish
This option can be helpful for students who, cannot easily travel to the college.
Who will conduct the interview?Interviews will be carried out by subject teachers, supported by the Student Recruitment Team/Careers Team.

This allows students to:
Ask detailed questions about their course
Understand expectations and progression routes
Receive guidance from staff who teach in the subject area
How do I book an interview?Students can book their interview using the online booking link provided in the invitation email from the college. Students can then choose the date and time slot that suits them best.
What if I have applied but do not have an interview booked? Please contact us at studentrecruitment@hsdc.ac.uk
Can I attend if I haven’t applied yet?Yes.

Students who have not yet applied but are considering HSDC are welcome to attend the Wednesday sessions between 4:00pm and 6:00pm for an opportunity to speak with one of our Student Recruitment Team or our Careers Team before applying.
What happens during the interview?College interviews are supportive conversations designed to help you make the right decision about your next step.

During the interview, you may:
Discuss your chosen course
Talk about your interests and career goals
Ask questions about the course and college life
Receive advice on subject combinations and progression routes
Discuss any support you may need

At the end of the interview your interviewer will confirm the next steps.
Who should I contact if I need help?If you have questions about booking or attending an interview, please contact: studentrecruitment@hsdc.ac.uk

With so many courses on offer, we know that you might not be 100% certain about what you want to study. Don’t worry if you end up changing your mind or need a bit more guidance on which course best suits you. Even if you’ve completed an application and had your interview it’s not too late to change your mind, just email us to let us know.

We want to make sure you are in the right place to achieve your aspirations. Unsure whether you’re better suited to A Levels or a Vocational Course? Our A Levels, T Levels, Vocational or Apprenticeships page can help you figure that out.

If you need to talk through the options and would like to speak to one of our Admissions Team, email studentrecruitment@hsdc.ac.uk.
