This qualification is aimed at employed learning support staff in primary (reception included) and secondary schools. It will enable the learner to build knowledge, understanding and skills needed for a support role within a teaching environment.
This is a part time course for experienced learning support staff working in schools. Inexperienced assistants would be advised to enquire about level 2 Certificate Support Teaching and learning in Schools.
It is advisable to be employed as a learning support assistant within a school environment.
There are no formal entry qualifications for this course however you will need an appropriate level of English (GCSE grade 4/C or equivalent).
On this course you will study:
To achieve the whole qualification, the learner must successfully complete all eleven units
You will be taught in the college environment outside of the work place, using a variety of teaching methods.
You will be required to complete one assignment for each unit, you will also need to show competence within the work place relating to stated criteria. All units are internally assessed; the minimum grade to achieve the Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools is a pass.
A variety of teaching and assessment methods will help you complete the units. You will be encouraged to share good practice with other support staff in group discussions.
Upon completion of this course you are able to progress to a Higher Level Teaching Assistant(HLTA) qualification.
