Overview

Campus Based Course Start Dates: September, January and April (Monday Daytime).

The purpose of this qualification is to increase your knowledge and awareness of children and young people’s mental health. By completing the qualification, you will develop knowledge of mental health problems commonly associated with children and young people, the impact of mental ill-health on children and young people and the support available to maintain mental wellbeing in children and young people. Ideal for those wishing to work in a school or college environment or any roles dealing with children and young people.

As all employers are now looking to recruit people who already hold a Level 2 Certificate in English and Mathematics (e.g. GCSE grade C/4 or above), a requirement for the course is that you have a minimum of Level 1 in English or be prepared to sit an English assessment to establish your current levels. Please discuss any queries regarding your Mathematics and English because all applications will be considered on an individual basis. To enrol on this Adult Learning course you must be aged 19 years or over.

On this 12 week online course, you will study the following units:

  1. Understand children and young people’s mental health
  2. Understand factors which may affect children and young people’s mental health
  3. Understand children and young people’s mental health concerns
  4. Understand the impact of children and young people’s mental health concerns
  5. Understand how to support children and young people with mental health

You will be assessed on a portfolio of work that you will build as you progress through the units. There is no exam.

Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to a Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health, Level 3 Award in the Awareness of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce (England) or Level 3 Award/Certificate/Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning.

My experience at the college was enjoyable and productive, with thoroughly helpful people surrounding you, an excellent experience. I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was, with the work shop time and experience I had, it was a great two years preparing me for the next stage.

Edward Smith, BTEC student

The tutors were really supportive and it was all thanks to them that I have achieved what I have. I’ve also made loads of great friends and really enjoyed my time at the college.

Lizaveta Sinkerich, A Level student

I’m really happy and pleased with my grades. I really loved my time at the college, I have also made lots of friends, it’s a really nice place to be, I don’t want to leave.

Lauren Piper, A Level student
