Overview

We all know what it’s like to feel stressed – being under pressure is a normal part of life, but becoming overwhelmed by stress can lead to mental health problems or make existing problems worse. Due to an increase in negative media coverage in recent years, the need for mental health awareness and support is now greater than ever.

This course is split into five manageable units which will not only provide you with a more comprehensive understanding of mental health, but they will also give you the knowledge required to work in a variety of roles within both the mental health and social care sector.

Ideally you will have completed Level 2 Mental Health Awareness or be able to demonstrate an appropriate level of ability to undertake a Level 3 qualification. To enrol on this Adult Learning course you must be aged 19 years or over.

On this online course, you will study the following units:

  1. Understanding the context of mental health and wellbeing
  2. Promotion of mental health and wellbeing
  3. Mental health problems: associated issues and consequences
  4. Understanding mental ill-health
  5. Working in mental health

All learning will take place using an interactive distance learning platform with a virtual tutor and an HSDC assessor, who will be on hand for any queries and will mark your assessments and provide you with feedback.

You will be assessed through online assessments.

HSDC offers several other Level 3 Health Care Distance Learning opportunities, or your newly developed skills could help gain employment in a Senior Clinical Support Role or as a Senior Healthcare Assistant or Mental Health Support Worker.

There are lots of people at the college, each studying a diverse range of courses, people from all different areas come to study here, it creates a sense of community, there is a huge social aspect to college life across all courses.
