Overview

This Engineering course is designed to prepare you for T Level study. It is a one year course that includes a project and work experience.

A grade 4 in Mathematics is essential alongside three GCSE’s at grade 3 including, English and Science.

You will study multiple units on this course.

These include:

  • Safety in the workplace
  • The use of hand tools
  • Computer-aided design – CAD
  • Maths for engineers
  • Materials science

Alongside these units, you will take part in a project which is similar to the employer set project within the T Levels. The course is divided into the following units:

  • Engineering Materials – Materials can behave or react in different ways depending on their makeup. This unit will discuss their properties and how these reactions happen
  • Mathematics for Engineering – You will learn about arithmetic and the way that numbers are used when solving engineering problems
  • Machining Techniques – A variety of tools are used for the machining operations you will perform in this unit. You will learn about the functions of simple and complex tools to help you decide which tool is most suitable for particular machining tasks
  • You will understand the advantages of using CAD and learn to use the software and hardware required to produce CAD drawings. You will also be able to produce and interpret CAD drawings and use CAD software to produce 3D drawings and views.
  • Working drawings are used to provide engineers with the information they need to manufacture an engineered product.

You will also be required to undertake work experience with an engineering employer.

A variety of teaching and learning techniques will be used in lessons to support your learning in key subject areas linked to engineering.

You will be assessed on a constant basis throughout lessons to ensure understanding. Each unit is assessed through the completion of internally set assignments.

Materials/resources £20.00
Overalls £23.00
Safety shoes £17.00

Upon successful completion of the Engineering course, work experience, project and achievement of grade 4 or above in English and Mathematics you would move on to an Engineering T Level. Progression into an Apprenticeship is also possible.

Everyone at the College was really helpful, and there’s lots of facilities, meaning it’s very easy to get your work done on time, and get good grades. The teaching and support was excellent, they were always on top of it, and made sure you got work done on time and you were challenged. Everyone is friendly and its really diverse, meaning you can get involved in lots of different things.

“I owe the staff a lot and I wouldn't be where I am today without them.”

Tom Andrews, A Level Student

My experience at the college was enjoyable and productive, with thoroughly helpful people surrounding you, an excellent experience. I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was, with the work shop time and experience I had, it was a great two years preparing me for the next stage.

Edward Smith, BTEC student
