Overview

This Engineering course is designed to prepare you for T level study. It is a one year course including a project and workexperience.

A grade 4 in Mathematics is essential. English and Science grades must be at grade 3 or above.

You will study multiple units on this course.

These include:

  • Safety in the workplace
  • The use of hand tools
  • Drilling and machinery
  • Maths for Engineers
  • Materials Science

Alongside these units, you will take part in a project which is similar to the employer set project within the T levels. The course is divided into the following units:

  • Engineering Materials – Materials can behave or react in different ways depending on their makeup. To describe this, we talk about a  material’s properties
  • Mathematics for Engineering – You will learn about arithmetic and the way that numbers are used when solving engineering problems
  • Machining Techniques – A variety of tools are used for the machining operations you will perform in this unit. You will learn about the functions of simple and complex tools to help you decide which tool is most suitable for particular machining tasks
  • Interpreting and Using Engineering Information
  • Working drawings are used to provide engineers with the information they need to manufacture an engineered product.

You will also be required to undertake work experience with an Engineering employer.

A variety of teaching and learning techniques will be used in lessons to support your learning in key subject areas linked toEngineering.

You will be assessed on a constant basis throughout lessons to ensure understanding. Each unit is assessed through the completion of internally set assignments.
