The Level 2 Diploma in Performing Arts has been designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to progress to further study and training in a range of performing arts subjects.
The qualification has been designed for students who have an interest in the performing arts, often a specific discipline such as acting, dance or musical theatre, who wish to explore and extend this interest via a full time, immersive learning experience.
Many students will have identified a specific career in the creative industries that they wish to progress to (e.g.actor, entertainer, director, musical theatre performer, dancer, choreographer etc.) using this qualification as a starting point.
Five GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English Language. Entry is by interview and audition. You should prepare a dance (any style), song (musical theatre) or a monologue (selected from a modern play script) of your choice.
This course will allow you the freedom to develop your individual strengths as a performer, as well as acquiring ensemble skills in which to enhance your ability to collaborate and communicate. You will gain a significant amount of experience in working as part of an ensemble and explore a variety of performance skills in which to inform your own creative choices.
You will explore key aspects of performance such as teamwork and collaboration as well as a variety of contrasting performance styles and genres. You will explore solo and group performance material, voice, singing and movement, and demonstrate how to embed research within your practical work.
Throughout the year, you will work as a small performance company and work with industry professionals in the development of live and recorded performance work. Most lessons are highly practical and physical. You will be taught how to use digital and web technologies in order to produce an online learning blog, to aid the promotion of your work/showreels.
Assessment is continuous throughout workshop sessions and performances during the year. Digital journals, evaluations and presentations will also form an integral part of the assessment.
Students who achieve an overall Merit or above would normally progress on to a suitable Level 3 Extended Diploma or possible employment.
