You will be taught in our realistic working salon, Synergy, practising on each other until you have learnt the practical skills necessary to work on clients.

A minimum of 4 GCSEs grade 2 and above including either Mathematics or English.

You will learn practical beauty skills including:

  • Introduction to the hair and beauty sector
  • Presenting a professional image
  • Health and safety in the salon
  • Salon reception duties
  • Working with others
  • Skin care treatments
  • Make-up application
  • Themed face painting
  • Nail art application
  • Manicure treatment
  • Create a hair and beauty image
  • The art of photographic make-up

The theory will be covered in a classroom and you will have assignment work to complete. English and Mathematics skills will also form part of your course and will be included in each of your lessons. You may have the opportunity to partake in volunteering work within the community.

You will carry out a variety of practical treatments within a realistic working environment at the HSDC Beauty Salon, Synergy. You will also have assignment work to complete.

This course requires you to purchase a uniform and kit and we include trips to enhance your learning and experience of industry. All of these costs will be explained at interview and students in receipt of financial assistance will be supported with these costs.

On successful completion of this course, you will have the opportunity to move on to a Level 2 course in Beauty.

My experience at the college was enjoyable and productive, with thoroughly helpful people surrounding you, an excellent experience. I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was, with the work shop time and experience I had, it was a great two years preparing me for the next stage.

Edward Smith, BTEC student

My time at the college was definitely life changing, I have learnt a lot of new skills, and obviously it’s a completely new experience. The support was great, there was always people there to help and try make it as easy as they can for you. The college is really fantastic, it has helped me on the way to get to what I want to achieve within my career goals.

Erin Morgan, BTEC student
