Overview

This practical, industry-focused course gives you the opportunity to write, film, and edit your own productions across genres including documentary, drama, and music video. You’ll develop scriptwriting skills, collaborate with actors, and bring your creative ideas to life using professional-standard cameras, lighting, and editing software.

Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language or Mathematics. At interview, you should bring with you a portfolio of film & TV based creative work.

Over two years, you’ll work on a range of film and media projects that reflect real industry practice. You’ll gain experience in directing, cinematography, sound recording, postproduction, and on-set teamwork, building a professional skill set through hands-on production work.

The course provides a studio equipped with green screen technology and vision mixing capabilities. Alongside this, post-production facilities are available in the form of Adobe Creative Suite. Production facilities include BBC approved HD cameras and professional sound recording equipment.

You will also get full access to the Adobe Creative Suite at home, free of charge, so you can continue working remotely and build your skills even further.

Assessment is largely project-based, leading to a collaborative project at the end of each year which is graded Pass, Merit, or Distinction.

Some learners may wish to gain the qualification in order to enter a specialist area of employment or to progress to a Level 4 or 5 programme. UAL Extended Diplomas in Creative Media Production will provide access to a greater range of specialist units and therefore broaden and extend your experience.

Everyone is friendly and its really diverse, meaning you can get involved in lots of different things.

Conor Ward, BTEC student

I overcame a couple of barriers by working really hard to get the top grades. My experience was really good, with the course and the lecturers, the residentials and activities, together it was all really good. I had really great teaching support, I could always go to the lecturers and speak to them if I needed to.
