Overview

You can further develop your hairdressing skills and pick up new creative techniques to expand your skill set by choosing this highly practical program.

You will be using LOreal Matrix products and will develop your skills by learning advanced colouring, along with cutting techniques including long hair work.

You will need an NVQ/Diploma at Level 2 in Hairdressing. You will have an excellent attendance record and skill base. Salon experience would be beneficial, however it is not essential. Skills testing prior to course commencement may be required.

On this course you will study:

– How to carry out and monitor health and safety practices in the salon
– Consultation support for colleagues on hair services
– Cut women’s hair to create a variety of looks
– Style and dress hair using a variety of techniques
– Colour hair to create a variety of looks
– Cutting Men’s Facial Hair
– Creative hairdressing design skills

Students will have the opportunity to work in our industry-standard salon, working with paying clients, using top of the range products and equipment.

Practical assessment will be carried out on paying clients in the training salon. All practical work carried out will need to be recorded to form the evidence to be included with your portfolio. Attempts at assessment are made when you feel you have a good chance of successfully meeting the performance criteria. Assessments are recorded in your assessment book. Throughout the course you will need to keep records of the work you complete, so that these may be used to form the basis of your portfolio. There is a mixture of exams which are in the form of online testing.

There is also a considerable amount of project, assignment and portfolio work for this course. Homework is set as a revision task for online testing. You will also be required to complete a client write up. All students will also be required to participate in work experience one day per week in a beauty salon.

This course requires you to purchase a uniform and kit and we include trips to enhance your learning and experience of industry. All of these costs will be explained at interview and students in receipt of financial assistance will be supported with these costs.

Employment within the hairdressing industry at a senior level, such as senior colour technician or senior stylist.

The tutors were really supportive and it was all thanks to them that I have achieved what I have. I’ve also made loads of great friends and really enjoyed my time at the college.

Lizaveta Sinkerich, A Level student

Everyone at the College was really helpful, and there’s lots of facilities, meaning it’s very easy to get your work done on time, and get good grades. The teaching and support was excellent, they were always on top of it, and made sure you got work done on time and you were challenged. Everyone is friendly and its really diverse, meaning you can get involved in lots of different things.

Conor Ward, BTEC student
