Overview

This course is a three-year, full-time programme with work experience days throughout your first and second years, and placement weeks in your third year. You will be required to attend all timetabled sessions.

This course is a fantastic opportunity for people who want to begin a rewarding career in healthcare, especially nursing, paramedicine or midwifery. The content in this course will develop your knowledge of the huge range of jobs within healthcare, learning about the different types of clinical tests and measurements used within these professions, and the science knowledge relevant to working in this sector.

The content delivery is supplemented with practical activities to allow you to develop the associated technical skills for the workplace.

Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above including Maths and English language. To study this course, you must also complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

This course aims to provide you with the knowledge and understanding of core subject areas in health and social care. You will study: Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care, Human Growth and Development, Safeguarding and Protection in Health and Social Care, and Health and Safety.

You will also work towards an Employer Set Project (ESP) to practice your communication and presentation skills before moving on to Level 3. Pearson Edexcel GCSE in Biology gives you the opportunity to experience human biology within the context of health and social care. You will study topics such as: Genetics, Natural Selection, Health and Disease, and Homeostasis.

This course will be taught in a combination of learning environments. Some classes will take place in classrooms, while others will be held in science laboratories, and some will be conducted in state-of-the-art facilities set up to resemble hospital wards and healthcare settings. High-tech medical and clinical equipment will be used to enable you to understand the range of equipment used by nurses and other healthcare professionals.

To succeed on this course, you need to complete written assignments, a science exam and a project. The Health element of the course will be internally assessed via written assignments, alongside the Employer Set Project (ESP). The Science element of the course will be externally assessed via two written examinations.

On completion of this course, you will progress on to Level 3 T Level Health. From there, you will be able to go directly into employment as a nursing associate or healthcare assistant. You could also undertake a nursing degree apprenticeship. Alternatively, you could go on to study in Higher Education, in degrees such as adult or pediatric nursing, midwifery or mental health nursing.

My courses were all especially interesting, I thoroughly enjoyed all of them. All of my lecturers were extremely knowledgeable and I have learnt a lot from them.

I’m really happy and pleased with my grades. I really loved my time at the college, I have also made lots of friends, it’s a really nice place to be, I don’t want to leave.

Lauren Piper, A Level student

I’m very, very happy, I didn’t expect to do so well. The College has been helpful and supportive. I loved my courses, and the teachers were really good – every single one of them. The facilities are great, but it’s the staff that really make this place.
