Overview

This qualification is ideal if you have little previous experience but are considering a career in health, social care and/or children’s and young people’s settings and wish to gain the knowledge required to progress to study at a higher level, with the aim of entering the workforce in one of these areas.Importantly, you will undertake valuable work experience with children and adults, that will enable you to practice the personal skills you have learnt in the classroom. You will also complete an additional Level 1 short course to enhance your personal development.

Four GCSEs at grade 2 and above including either Mathematics or English. As you will be completing work experience, you will need to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Completion of this qualification will help you develop knowledge and awareness of thetypes of provision in the health, social care and children’s and young people sectors: Roles played by workers Principles and values Health and safety Human developmentYou will also gain knowledge in more specialised areas such as autism, physical disabilities and healthy lifestyles.

The course includes a mixture of written and practical work including group discussion, individual and group research and tutorials.

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods which could include: written assignments or tasks, such as designing a leaflet or booklet, posters, charts or diagrams or setting up an information board.

You will need to purchase a t-shirt to wear on placement. You will also need stationery items for personal use including, an A4 file, paper, pens and felt tips.

After completing this course you could go onto study the Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care.
