This qualification is ideal if you have little previous experience but are considering a career in health, social care and/or childrens and young peoples settings and wish to gain the knowledge required to progress to study at a higher level, with the aim of entering the workforce in one of these areas.
Importantly, you will undertake valuable work experience with children and adults, that will enable you to practice the personal skills you have learnt in the classroom. You will also complete an additional Level 1 short course to enhance your personal development.
Mainly grade 2 or above in your GCSEs. You will also need to demonstrate a keen interest in working with children and vulnerable adults. As you will be completing work experience, you will need to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Completion of this qualification will help you develop knowledge and awareness of the types of provision in the health, social care and childrens and young peoples sectors:
– Roles played by workers
– Principles and values
– Health and safety
– Human development
You will also gain knowledge in more specialised areas such as autism, physical disabilities and healthy lifestyles.
The course includes a mixture of written and practical work including group discussion, individual and group research and tutorials.
All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods which could include: written assignments or tasks, such as designing a leaflet or booklet, posters, charts or diagrams or setting up an information board.
You will need to purchase a t-shirt to wear on placement. You will also need stationery items for personal use including, an A4 file, paper, pens and felt tips.
After completing this course you could go on to study the Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care.
