Are you thinking about drama school? Do you want to become an actor, work behind the scenes in production, or even establish your own theatre company in the future? If so, this course offers an exciting opportunity to take meaningful steps towards a career in the performing arts. Designed to nurture talent and extend existing skills, the course prepares you for work across a range of media, including theatre, screen and creative technologies. You will take part in practical skills classes in acting, voice and physical theatre, alongside drama workshops, rehearsals and fully realised productions. Throughout the course, you will perform a wide range of scripted plays on stage, exploring a variety of theatre styles from classical texts to contemporary practice. You will also develop essential skills in acting for camera, creating short films that are screened to a public audience. Alongside scripted work, you will engage in devised performance, collaborating creatively to produce original work in a range of styles and contexts. Your artistic development and learning will be documented through a digital portfolio, encouraging reflection and professional awareness. Collaboration sits at the heart of the course, mirroring industry practice and helping you build confidence, creativity and discipline as a performer. Learning is further enriched through our relationship with RSC as a lead associate school, as well as frequent trips to Shakespeare’s Globe, the West End and regional theatres, as well as professional talks, workshops and backstage tours. The Acting for Stage & Screen course has also developed strong progression routes with Federation of Drama Schools (FDS) accredited higher education providers, supporting students to progress to some of the UK’s leading drama schools. Seeing Italia Conti, Court Theatre and Oxford School of Drama coming in to audition students directly at college to support their progression. This has seen our progression success rate for entry to world-leading drama schools to be consistently high, with recent alumni currently studying at East 15, LAMDA, Rose Bruford, Italia Conti, Guildhall, Central School of Speech & Drama & Drama Studio.This course provides a supportive, industry-focused environment for students who are serious about pursuing a future in the performing arts.
Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English Language. You will also undertake an audition where you will be required to pre- prepare and learn a two-minute monologue to perform at the interview.

The Acting course offers a range of teaching approaches including lectures and practice based workshops focused on the techniques of theatre companies and practitioners. Play texts are interpreted and realised through project- based learning and discovery tasks, rehearsals and directed performance. Assessment evidence includes a reflective and evaluative project log and portfolio of research, oral presentations, creative group work, rehearsing, refining and performing scripted and devised work for stage and screen.The teaching environment engages students in practical and contextual learning activities supported by digital media technologies. We have access to a number of arts-based e-resources and provide students with online support materials. To enrich the learning experience, practical work on the course is underpinned with contextual and referential teaching to encourage a knowledge base of theatre styles and practitioners and historical and contemporary influences upon the performing arts.Our ethos is to create high-quality, dynamic performance work in a positive, productive and professional environment where individuals can develop and thrive.The College boasts a fully functioning theatre space equipped with sound and lighting technologies at professional standard. The Performing Arts department has four rehearsal rooms, a training studio space and two large dance studios. Rooms are equipped with IT facilities to complement teaching sessions.
The course is continually assessed within units of study. Grades range from Pass, Merit andDistinction. Much of the written evidence, which supports your performance work, is in the form of a digital portfolio. Students are expected to update this regularly to document development and research. Other evidence may include presentations, essays and portfolios.

Many students following this course continue their studies at university. Other students preferto study at an accredited Drama School. In recent years our students have gained places atLAMDA, RADA, Mountview and East 15. Many of our past students are now working in the industry.
