Overview

This course is for young people aged 19 – 25 years old who have a current Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP). It is designed to help prepare them for independence to develop skills and and give you the opportunity to learn at your own pace. This course will have slightly smaller class/group sizes than the other Entry courses and will also include learning support in classes and support at break and lunchtimes.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

This course will give you the opportunity to study a variety of courses designed around the preparing for adulthood agenda:
– Customer Service Skills
– Friendships and Relationships
– Healthy Lifestyles
– Independent Living skills
– Social Inclusion

You will be taught by experienced SEN teachers with support from learning support assistants. Tasks will be broken down into simple steps with the aim of you being able to move from being supported to complete tasks, to doing them yourself after a period of time using the RARPA principles.

Personalised support can be provided if needed, including 1:1 support in and out of class, group academic support, personal care, special tuition in the Study Centre and social communication (speech and language) groups.

You will be assessed through set tasks, set for you by each teacher including observations by them. Your written work and photographic evidence will be collated in a portfolio for assessment.

My experience at the College was great, it’s very different to school, and I think it’s a good step to going to university. The support was amazing, I loved all of my teachers, they helped me through everything. The College is friendly and you will succeed.

Heidi Adamson Brattland, A Level student
