Overview

This full time course is aimed at helping prepare you for work through enterprise activities, work experience and employer visits, as well as developing your employability, English and Mathematics skills in the classroom.

As part of your course you will be expected to take part in regular work experience (one day a week) either within the College setting or another voluntary organisation or business, to develop your confidence and skills in the workplace. This will be arranged by the job coaches and agreed with you.

No qualifications or experience are required for this course, however students must have an EHCP and a goal of employment as their focus and have a desire to work.

  • Employability skills – learning about what employers expect, your own skills and qualities and customer service
  • Team building and problem-solving – setting up and running enterprise events
  • English and Mathematics tutorial

HSDC offers a variety of teaching and learning approaches including taught sessions, tutorials, practical workshops, presentations and group discussions. You will have access to the Learning Hub and other online and digital resources through the HSDC student portal (MyHSDC). Job coach sessions will include visits to local workplaces, employer talks, interview skills and CV building.

Students will complete a range of projects and assignments to produce a portfolio of work. Realistic but stretching targets will be set and reviewed throughout the placement. You will be supported in all college classes via the use of academic and learning support assistants where needed and the use of any learning aids or assistive technology as required.

Some possible options for progression when you finish this course include a Supported Internship, paid work, voluntary work and further supported employment training.
