You will learn about service routine and perform drill for Remembrance Day and at your end of year Pass-Off Parade. There will also be map and navigation days and an adventurous activities residential to Tile Barn. We have a strong bond with the Armed Forces Careers Office (AFCO) and the School of Policing and Guarding at South Park, offering employer engagement, through regular guest speakers and look at life experiences for a variety of the armed forces career paths. HSDC has its own Combined Cadet Force (CCF), which students are encouraged to join unless already involved in a cadet programme, that can enhance a Uniformed Services experience.

Three GCSEs including English Language or Mathematics at grade 3 or above or successful completion of a Level 1 Diploma course with Functional Skills. Those with GCSE grade 2 profile are recommended to pursue the Level 1 Diploma in Uniformed Services course or an alternative Level 1 course.

All of which will help develop the skills and knowledge you need to build a career in the armed forces or public services.

All work will be continuously assessed using video and photographic evidence to support effective feedback. Google Classroom provides easy access to resources and relevant course or tutor-related information. Practical and peer observations in conjunction with mock professional and peer interviews allow your progress to be monitored throughout the whole year. I overcame a couple of barriers by working really hard to get the top grades. My experience was really good, with the course and the lecturers, the residentials and activities, together it was all really good. I had really great teaching support, I could always go to the lecturers and speak to them if I needed to.

David Stenning, Public Services student

My experience at the College was great, it’s very different to school, and I think it’s a good step to going to university. The support was amazing, I loved all of my teachers, they helped me through everything. The College is friendly and you will succeed.

Heidi Adamson Brattland, A Level student

I would say it’s a college that really balances academia with fun, there is lots of extra-curricular stuff that you can get involved in. It has a really good work/life balance.
