HSDC media students celebrated the end of their final year by organising an outdoor movie night at Southsea Bandstand for the public.

The students held a mini festival before the screening of The Italian Job on Saturday, 9 June as a part of their final major project. HSDC students worked in collaboration with the non-profit organisation Portsmouth Film Society to market and promote their event, showcasing their media skills and marketing knowledge.

BTEC Level 3 Multimedia & Journalism student, Jon Hooper, said: “After six months of pure dedication and hard work, our idea of an outdoor cinema event was actually happening, and it still has not quite sunk in!

“The fact that a group of College students were able to orchestrate a live-action event and convince Portsmouth Film Society to help us is no mean feat by all accounts.”

The music and film event was endorsed by LMSUKMedia and The Southern Universities Network, and HSDC would like to thank them for their support.

LMSUKMedia is a music promotion company run by former student Josh Robinson who puts his business success down to the opportunities HSDC offered throughout his BTEC Business Studies course.

Student Esme White said: “Studying a BTEC Mulitmedia & Journalism Level 3 course challenges and constantly pushes you to cross boundaries into areas that I thought I wouldn’t be interested in. The cinema event experience gave me the opportunity showcase my skills and talent to an active and supportive community.”

Student Kieran Owens said: “This course allowed us all to fully realise our potential in the areas we felt most comfortable and focus and improve on what we struggled with. The film event allowed us to capitalise on this and all shine both individually and as a team.”

Student Leanne March said: “On the day of the event we came together as a team and made it very successful and amazing for the audience.”

The evening proved to be even more of a success as two media students were selected by Portsmouth Film Society for internships at the end of the evening.
