At Havant & South Downs College, we work with a number of businesses and organisations to give our students the opportunity to find the perfect fit when choosing an Apprenticeship.
We want to highlight the incredible companies we work with and their experience of having an apprentice with HSDC with our ‘Employer of the Month’ feature.

This month we will be talking to Saab Seaeye.

Tell us about your business.

Saab Seaeye is the world’s leading underwater e-robotics company, with the most advanced range of tethered, autonomous and hybrid electric robotic systems, engineered to address the diverse range of tasks found across commercial, defence and scientific markets.

How many employees do you have in your business?

146

Why have you chosen to invest the next generation through having an apprentice?

SAAB Seaeye believes strongly in investing in its future. We have a very impressive track record with apprentices, with successful candidates moving into engineering roles such as product development and production engineering. We also have two apprentices who have moved into management positions.

How many apprentices do you have?

Eight.

Why have you chosen to take on an apprentice through HSDC?

We have had strong ties with HSDC for over 20 years. We know that not only do our apprentices receive a high standard of education, but also lecturers and administration staff will be responsive and supportive of our requirements.

How has having an apprentice benefited your business?

We have good evidence to show that those who have working knowledge of all build, administration and design areas go on to be sought after in our business.

What would your apprentice say about working for you?

Jack Burgess, Engineering Technician, said: “Working for Saab Seaeye as an apprentice was an invaluable experience for me. I had lots of opportunities for development during my four years on the apprenticeship and have since been taken on as an Engineering Technician, building and testing new prototypes. If any of my friends were considering an apprenticeship with Seaeye, then I would definitely recommend it.”
