IT and Computer Science students from Havant & South Downs College gained insight into the technology industry at a conference hosted by Disneyland Paris.

Staying for three days at the Disneyland Resort in Paris, A Level and Vocational students attended Computing Live – an immersive event designed to bring the curriculum to life. Learners came face-to-face with speakers from high profile organisations who inspired the students with their own career journeys.

Rik Ferguson, a leading figure in online threats, the underground economy and the impact of security on consumers, inspired students with a talk on his own experiences.

Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon, who gained her first A Level in computing aged 11, shared her passion for technology and promoting STEM for women. Tom Nelson of the Walt Disney Company, a previous winner of Google’s award for inspirational digital marketers, provided an insight into the technology behind Disney.

IT lecturer Matt Buckle said: “Students who took part in the trip were also able to spend time in the Disney theme parks to experience the rides and shows, investigating how they used computers and technology to function.

“Disneyland Paris is an ideal location for students to experience independence in a secure and safe environment. The whole weekend event was an inspiration to students to further study IT and developed their confidence and communication skills.”
