On Tuesday 14 January, over eighty HSDC Business and Music students flocked to the HSDC South Downs Performance Theatre to attend a guest interview with former HSDC student Ben Miles, the co-founder of the Victorious Festival in Portsmouth. Victorious Festival is a three-day music event held in Portsmouth, founded in 2011 it’s headline acts have included Dizzee Rascal, Kaiser Chiefs, Rita Ora, Madness, The Prodigy and Paul Weller.  In 2017 120,000 visitors went to the Festival and it has steadily grown every year.

The interview allowed the students to gain an invaluable insight into the workings of the business and music industry, running an event and advice on event management. The interview concluded with a variety of student questions to allow the students in attendance to ask their own questions and to find out more about what they would want to know about these topics.

Conducting the interview was Joshua Moynihan, a second year Journalism and Communications student. Joshua said of the interview: “Overall, the event was a huge success. I was astounded by the number of students who attended and was grateful to have been given the opportunity to conduct my first interview with Ben in front of a student audience. The interview was very insightful into the running of a business and the challenges of working in the music and business industry. I hope that all of the students learned a lot from this event, as much as I certainly did!”

This year’s Festival is scheduled for 28-30 August and will include performances by Ian Brown and The Kooks. HSDC will be showcasing up-and-coming artists, including AMP students, staff and alumni, to perform throughout the weekend at their own dedicated stage.
