Lucy Williams Nationals

Last September former HSDC Alton student Lucy Williams (on right in photo) represented England in the Junior Women’s section at the 2019 Commonwealth Judo Championships where she was awarded a Bronze Medal. The event, which came to Birmingham from 2018 host country Indiahas added to the growing list of top-level European and World judo competitions to be hosted in Britain in the 2017-2020 Olympic and Paralympic cycle.

In December 2019, Lucy again took bronze at the British National Championships.  Because of all the ranking points she has gained since September, Lucy is currently ranked second in the UK for her age and weight category.

As a national medallist, Lucy was selected for the Great Britain Junior National Squad and the England Talent Development Squad, which allows her to train at the Centre of Excellence for Judo at University of Wolverhampton, Walsall, whilst continuing her studies at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge.

Lucy received a CTEC Extended Diploma in Sport from Alton and in 2018 was awarded Alton College Foundation’s Scholarship for Sport sponsored by the Alton Lions Club (CIO). She believes the scholarship was invaluable: “the scholarship funding sponsorship from the Alton Lions has proved invaluable in assisting me get this far with my Judo ambitions”.
