This month we are recognising Tessa Gumbley who is a Student Recruitment Advisor on our Havant campus.
How long have you worked at the College?
I have worked at the College for about a year and a half now.
What was your journey/training before coming to HSDC?
I previously worked in retail as a manager and really enjoyed motivating and developing others. We had a lot of students apply for vacancies and it was those members of staff that I felt I could really make a difference with, from the interview stage onwards.
What is the highlight of your role at HSDC?
The highlight of my role is definitely meeting new students every day from different backgrounds and with different aspirations. It’s nice to meet a variety of people – listening to their stories and what they are currently studying at school; with each student, there is a new story told to me. I enjoy making the students feel less nervous and actually excited to start college and, by the end of the interviews, the students come out of their shells and are looking forward to studying with us in September.
What is something about your job that people don’t know?
I don’t just interview the students, it definitely goes beyond that. There are times when I need to help with careers advice and health and well-being support to ensure that students are comfortable and happy with what HSDC can provide as a college.
