At HSDC we have a number of highly-skilled, dedicated and passionate staff.

They go above and beyond to help our students reach their full potential. We want to shout about these integral members of our HSDC community, so every month we will be finding out about the people behind our excellence with our ‘Staff in the Spotlight’ feature.

This month we are recognising Debra Barker who is Receptionist on our Alton campus.

How long have you worked at the College?

Nearly 14 years, starting in the Adult Education department, promoting to the Receptionist at Alton.

Why did you choose this position?

I love being front of house and having the daily contact/banter with students/staff and visitors.

What was your journey/training before coming to HSDC

I worked for the Daily Telegraph as the News Editor’s PA and for the MD of a PR agency in Chelsea, all of which have helped with my customer service skills!

What is the highlight of your role at HSDC?

Never knowing what each day will bring!

What is something about your job that people don’t know?

I appeared on the television programme Cash in the Attic.

What three words would your students use to describe you?

I hope it would be friendly, cheerful, helpful.

How do you relax outside of work?

Walking, training and playing with my puppy, drinking wine, aqua aerobics, not necessarily in that order!
