During lockdown this term, HSDC Havant Media Lecturer Steve Murray has been creative in engaging his students: “Film students have been introduced to the concept of ideology by looking at the work of filmmaker Ken Loach. I’ve used the screen-recording software Screencastify to deliver a Google Slides presentation setting the work for the week.
“For extension work, I also took the opportunity to record a top-five of social realism films for students to seek out while they are confined at home. While remote learning presents challenges, it does at least offer opportunities for film students to broaden and extend their knowledge by watching films from genres they may not have chosen to watch previously.
“We’ve also been able to allow students to carry out remote research projects into filmmakers and films they are interested in. This way, they will be well prepared for lessons when we return to the classroom.”
