Apprentice chefs help prepare for VE Day deliveries and celebration

In preparation for VE Day deliveries to the community last week, our Commis Chef apprentice Robert Partridge worked hard to prepare Chicken, Leek & Stilton Pie with Mash and prepared a delicious Roasted Topside of Beef, donated by Bransbury Park Butchers.

Gemma Hammond, Hospitality Apprenticeship Assessor, describes the day:

“For VE Day, we set up a stall outside of the Landport Community Centre for people in the community, serving sandwiches, scones and cakes.  There were singers singing wartime favourites. Carers brought their wards with them to enjoy the sunshine and scones.”

This week Apprentice Sam Howell worked again with Pompey FC player Christian Burgess to prepare Duck Stir Fry, after a generous donation of duck from FareShare.  He also made Harira, a delicious Moroccan lamb soup with lentils. Cameron McGeehan, on loan to Pompey FC from Barnsley, also visited to give a helping hand; he learned how to make a traditional Bread & Butter Pudding while the staff from Quality Wrestling, Havant, helped to portion all the food ready for delivery to the community.

A big thank you to Bransbury Park Butchers and FareShare for their donations and to all of the volunteers who are giving up their time to help their community during this crisis.
