HSDC Course Manager Will Bowerman has been working as a Facilitator for the Education and Training Foundation (ETF) on their Practice Development Group programme.
Will’s role has been to facilitate action learning sets through virtual meetings with a number of lecturers once per month for three months. In these meetings, each participant presented a problem or puzzle they wished to investigate and explore before the next month’s meeting (action learning set). A wide range were presented, including puzzles such as how to start a lesson, effective plenaries, digital resources, behavioural management, embedding maths and English into specific subjects, and many others.
This group programme enables lecturers to realise they’re not alone, to share best practice, to signpost resources that others may not be aware of. Participants have found it very beneficial as it is free, it doesn’t take up much time and it helps with professional development.
