HSDC students are able to access impartial careers support through ‘Future YOU’, an online resource that offers a range of activities, speaker series and programmes to engage with and equip students to develop the skills to navigate their future after leaving College, be it at university, in an apprenticeship or in employment.

Started last September and relaunched during lockdown this January, Future YOU is open to all A Level and vocational students on Level 3 courses and is a ‘one-stop’ shop where a whole host of information is brought together in one place. Students can discover more about themselves through weekly activities, tune in to different presentations and Q&A sessions through the Southern Universities Network (SUN) Guest Speaker Series and access resources through an online Google classroom.

Student feedback has been positive: “There are plenty of resources that can apply to anyone and anything… without needing to go on a web-surfing spiral”. They also have found it useful for “understanding all the higher education options (not just university)” and “researching options for careers and guest speakers”.

HSDC Careers Manager Kate Creswick, who coordinates Future YOU, believes that this is a phenomenal resource for students:

“HSDC excels in its academic teaching but that is only one set of skills our students need to have a successful future. Through this resource we aim to help sift through the vast online content and give students access to tailor-made support to build personal employability skills, self-awareness and resilience to tackle the ever-changing careers landscape.”
