Creative wellbeing sessions will help the community to explore mindfulness and creativity at HSDC South Downs in the new year.

Regular workshops will be hosted at the College from January in partnership with Creatful, a social enterprise aiming to help people kickstart their creative wellbeing journey.

Six weeks of sessions including a variety of crafts such as hair bow making basics, needle felting, dot painting, hand lettering and bullet journaling will start on January 11, with sessions to run each Tuesday from 6pm to 7.30pm.

This project is being run by Community Engagement Manager Abi Summers and Nancy Fellows, Founder and Director of Creatful.

Abi said:

“Nancy set up Creatful following her experience with a mental health crisis, something that resonates with myself too – so we are both very much keen for this to provide an element of wellbeing support to our local communities.

“HSDC exists to realise the ambitions of our community, with people at the heart of what we do. We are so excited to be bringing this community partnership to the public, and providing an open and supportive space to take part in these sessions.

“Whether it’s to learn a new craft, meet new people, or simply take some well-deserved time to do something mindful for their own mental wellbeing, we are looking forward to how our local communities can benefit from Creatful at HSDC.”

These evening sessions will run from the South Downs Campus, inviting the public to come along, find a new hobby, meet new people, and enjoy some self care – all within a calm environment with group leader Nancy.

Nancy said:

“Creatful merges mindfulness and creative exercises to improve wellbeing. We believe that creativity is an underused resource that can empower people and bring them together.

“We are so thrilled to be partnered with HSDC. Together we are able to focus on our shared values and better serve our community. We will be sharing more details on workshops available very soon and releasing tickets so be sure to find us on social media and sign up to our mailing list.”

Workshops will cost £25 per person, with the funds covering the cost of materials as well as being put back into delivering more for the community.

Keen crafters can get 20% off all Creatful events until 18 February with code CREATFUL2022.
