Visitors welcomed back to celebrate HSDC South Downs Pass Off Parade

July 13, 2022

Students lined up for inspection at the Pass Off Parade

An impressive display of teamwork rounded off a year of success for Uniformed Services students as guests were invited to watch the Pass Off Parade.

Held at Fort Purbrook, this year’s parade for HSDC South Downs students was significant as families and friends were invited to watch the display for the first time since the pandemic began.

Each year, a Pass Off Parade is held to celebrate our students’ hard work, endeavour and determination to be successful, after many hours spent working in teams to develop their skills.

Around 30 students participated in the event, and a variety of awards were given out to students who have excelled throughout their studies.

Ashley Grute, Assistant Principal, said:

“I was delighted to attend our Uniformed Services Pass Off Parade and being able to share in the success of our students with parents, family and friends made this event extra special.

“It was great to hear about all of the fantastic destinations that our students are moving onto and how the college has set them off on their journeys.”

Ashley joined Sean Edwards (Former WO1 (ASM) REME) for the students’ inspection before the prize-giving ceremony.

The prize winners were:

  • Level 1 Top Student – Jack Gunnell
  • Level 1 Most Improved – Josh Griffiths
  • Level 2 Top Student – Stanley Reeves
  • Level 2 Most Improved – Brandon Bone
  • Level 3 Top Student – Jason Small
  • Level 3 Most Improved – Bailey Young
  • Top Troop – Level 1 (Eagle Troop)
  • Endeavour – Nathan Corner

A special presentation was made to former course manager Helen Hill in memory of Richard Hollington, an ex-HSDC student who sadly died while on duty for the Royal Marines in Afghanistan.

Uniformed Services students embarked on a six-mile weighted TAB march in May to raise £550.50 in memory of Richard, with the funds being used to plant a new memorial tree at the South Downs Campus in his memory.

We wish each and every student the best of luck for the future and hope that with their continued effort they will fulfil their ambitions of joining their chosen service.
