A passion for interior design has inspired an ex-HSDC student to follow her dreams – helped along the way by her great experience at college.
South Downs Campus alumna Grace Abbott is looking towards a bright future after graduating from Solent University with a degree in Interior Design Decoration.
Grace is passionate about interior design and explored her creativity and interest during her time at HSDC South Downs, where she studied the UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Photography and Graphic Design.
The vast range of facilities available and skills explored were among Grace’s favourite part of her HSDC experience. Grace said:
A design for Grace’s Final Major Project at university
“If I had not done this course at HSDC then I would not be where I am today.
“The variety of skills within this course really do set you up for life, I know so many of my cohort now do such a variety of skills and jobs – tattoo design, photography, fashion graphics and illustration work just to name a few.”
In particular, Grace said she enjoyed the use of the photography studios, the darkroom to develop film and the Mac suite to bring her work together.
Grace added:
“This course offers such diverse subjects – for your Final Major Project you can choose exactly what you want to do. I went with repeat patterns, illustration and graphics to create a range of wallpaper designs which enabled me to get into the university course at Solent.
“I would highly recommend this course to anyone who enjoys graphics, art or photography, as you can really make this course your own.
“Although you have certain modules to complete, I know even just from a handful of my friends on this course, we took each module in such different ways and made it adaptable for our needs and where we wanted to head for.”

Grace found that the breadth of the HSDC course means that she can now confidently apply for jobs and opportunities thanks to the diverse range of skills she learned during her time at the college.
