Students opening their results

Joy and relief swept over HSDC students as they collected their exam and assessment results and confirmed their next steps towards the future.

HSDC Havant student Hayley Edmead was pleased to confirm she will be heading to Oxford University to study Biomedical Science after achieving the very top grades.

Hayley, who joined HSDC Havant from Bourne Community College, gained four A*s in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and her EPQ, which was on the genetic engineering of human embryos.

Student Union president Hayley was happy with her results and is looking forward to a bright future. Hayley said: Hayley smiling with her results

“I’m feeling pretty good. It’s been a lot of suspense up until now so it’s a relief. Havant is such a good college, because of the community feeling here, also the teachers are amazing so that helps. It’s been a good two years and I’m sad it’s over.”

Tamara Crocker, who also studied at the Havant Campus, was over the moon with her results after achieving A*s in History and Politics, an A in English Literature. She also gained an A* for her Extended Project Qualification on ‘Should Richard Nixon only be remembered for the infamous scandal that ended his presidency?’.

After receiving an offer to study at Durham, Tamara has chosen to take an alternative route to university to achieve her dreams.

Ex-Ditcham Park student Tamara said:

“I am feeling ecstatic that my two years of hard work have paid off. It would not have been possible without the constant support from my teachers! Especially the effort they put in to see me outside of class, or to mark extra essays, and to always push me to go further.

“I am so grateful to HSDC and all of my tutors, so a big thank you! I now have an offer from my ‘dream’ university, but am instead deciding to pursue a six-year solicitor apprenticeship. My teachers were aware of this throughout the two years and consistently supported me with my extra applications and in making this big decision!”

Vocational and T Level students were also joining in with celebrations today as they confirmed their final results, including Niamh Baldwin at the South Downs Campus.

Niamh is among the first in the country to complete the T Level in Education & Childcare, gaining herself a Distinction overall to secure her place at the University of Chichester.

A fantastic set of A Level results for Alton College student Charlie Morgan has left him feeling excited and proud as he looks towards his next steps.

Charlie gained two A*s and an A, as well as a Distinction in Engineering, meaning he has gained a place at the University of Southampton to study Civil Engineering.

Charlie, who also took part in the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award during his time at Alton College, said:

“I learnt to adapt my learning style due to the difficulties in normal teaching during COVID. I am a much more resilient person following my time at college.

“I’m really pleased with my results and am very happy that I have got into my first choice of university. I can’t wait to start on my next chapter of life.”

Elsewhere on the Alton Campus, Triple A grades for Thomas Brewer in Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry meant that he will be able to attend the University of Leeds to study Medicinal Chemistry.

“The teaching staff are so supportive and push you to work hard and stay on track. All of the preparation we did also made the exams less stressful, I felt ready for them.”

Delighted Freya Jones was all smiles at HSDC Alton after achieving three As in Law, Sociology and the EPQ, as well as a Distinction in Performing Arts.

Ex-Amery Hill School student Freya is taking a gap year and then plans to go to university to study Law and Criminology. Freya said:

“Studying a mixed programme worked well for me, the balance against the two heavy A Level subjects enabled me to have the space to work hard on all three as well as complete my EPQ.”
