A motivated HSDC T Level student has secured his first job in the construction industry thanks to his hard work during an industrial placement.
Charlie Bruce, who studied at HSDC’s South Downs Campus, is beginning his career with Peter Marsh Consulting (PMc) after being offered the position of Assistant Project Manager.
Charlie was part of the first cohort to complete the new T Level in Design, Surveying & Planning for Construction, which included eight weeks of industry placement to set Charlie and his classmates up for their future.
Before embarking on the T Level, Charlie began his construction studies at Bordon’s Future Skills Centre where he completed a Bricklaying and Plumbing course which included projects assessing his drawings, project reports, costing sheets, project timelines and project presentations.
The Future Skills Centre was a building funded by the Enterprise M3 LEP and delivered by Hampshire Property Services, with PMc acting as client advisors from its inception through to its completion.
The T Level programme at HSDC is taught in spaces created and project-managed by PMc.
As part of the HSDC course, Charlie completed his eight-week work placement with PMc which included education and construction site visits across London and the South East.
Following the completion of his placement, Charlie applied for and secured the post of Assistant Project Manager with the firm.
Charlie said:
“My T Level course showed me the many roles in the industry that were available and as soon as I participated in my eight-week work placement working in project management, I couldn’t see any role better suited for me.
“I am really proud to be a part of the PMc team and to be able to work with HSDC to help create spaces for current and future students.”
Charlie intends to continue his professional development with PMc and put his knowledge and skills gained from his T Level into practice.
Peter Marsh, Managing Director, said:
“Charlie’s journey sums up what we are all about at PMc – creating spaces and shaping futures.
“He’s a fantastic credit to his school, the Future Skills Centre and HSDC and we are as proud as punch that he chose PMc to start his career in the construction industry.”
