Art Students take ‘inspiring’ trip to Amsterdam

Amsterdam

40 students from HSDC Havant recently returned from a five-day art residential trip to Amsterdam.

The students, alongside Fine Art Course Manager Mark Kellet enjoyed an array of activities among the renowned Museum District.

During the trip, the group visited various galleries including the unmissable museum of modern contemporary art and design, Stedelijk.

Students also had the opportunity to visit STRAAT, a museum for street art and graffiti and the AMAZE immersive walk-through experience located in Amsterdam’s West harbour.

The trip provided an excellent opportunity to explore the creative side of Amsterdam first-hand whilst also getting to visit some impressive establishments such as the Van Gogh Museum.

Not only were the students able to be inspired by the incredible artwork, but they were also able to fully immerse themselves in the innovative and vibrant culture Amsterdam had to offer.

Alongside exploring a range of galleries and museums, students were also able to explore Amsterdam with some free time.

Once returning, positive feedback came in thick and fast from students that attended. HSDC Havant student Eleanor Goodwin stated:

“Overall, a really great trip! We were well looked after by the staff, and they made sure there was a balance between going on a college trip and being more independent, which I really appreciated. Do go if you ever get the chance!”

HSDC Havant student Issy Copps added:

“Going to Amsterdam was not only inspiring for my art and coursework, through day trips around museums and galleries, but it also allowed us to relax and explore such an interesting and unique city. I’m really grateful for the experience and it’s made me excited to travel in the future.”

Fine Art Course Manager Mark Kellet stated:

“Amsterdam has lots to offer so we tried to explore as much as possible over the 5 days. There were too many highlights to mention but for me seeing the group enjoying the bikes at the sculpture park and building new friendships was heart-warming to see. The residential was without doubt one of the most stressful and rewarding things I’ve ever done throughout my teaching career”.

It is always great to get such positive feedback from our students and staff and we can’t wait for the next trip!
