HSDC staff member takes on double marathon challenge in aid of College food bank

May 2, 2023

Charlie Miller

A member of staff from HSDC achieves double victory as she has remarkably completed two marathons in a month!

Charlie Miller, Head of Student Progress, has recently taken on the mammoth task of completing both the Brighton and London marathon in the space of just 21 days raising over £1,500.

This incredible challenge was in aid of HSDC’s food bank, which was set up last spring for the first time in the college’s history at HSDC Alton after the Health and Wellbeing department recognised an increasing requirement from students struggling with basics such as hot food and toiletries.

The food bank has now been extended onto our Havant and South Downs campuses to continue to support not just our students but staff too. Over the last year we have seen a steady rise in the use of the on-site food banks, they are already a consistent form of support for many.

Charlie requested that donations of items were made to Reception at all three campuses alternatively there is a JustGiving link now in use:-

Charlie added:

“No family or young person should be going hungry. Our students have many barriers but food can’t be one of them. Being successful and achieving your ambitions is almost impossible if you worry about your next meal.”
