A passion for culinary arts led a talented cookery student to success at local finals held at HSDC South Downs.

Sophie, who is currently on HSDC’s 14-16 cookery programme, cooked up a storm at Springboard’s Future Chef local finals, which resulted in her being awarded first place in the competition.

Sophie, who will now be heading to the regional finals in Guildford in early 2024, prepared two plates of an open fish pie, one for chefs to taste and one for presentation.

Paul Mansfield, Course Manager for Level 1 and 14-16 Schools Hospitality & Catering added:

“Sophie decided to cook fish and between us both, we came up with an open fish pie topped with creamy mashed potato & served with warm tartare sauce.

The judges were blown away by her skills when preparing and cooking the dish and awarded her 1st place.”

This year marked the 25th anniversary of the competition, which brings together both FutureChef Jnrs. and FutureChef. The programme is in place to inspire students to explore food and develop their culinary skills whilst also identifying upcoming talent and we can’t wait to see what dishes the students will prepare in the regional finals!

Good luck Sophie!
