New York Trip

48 students from HSDC recently returned from the “most amazing trip ever” exploring the Big Apple.

The students, who study Business, Accounting, Economics, Media and Film alongside Programme Leader for Arts and Humanities Jamie Harrison, enjoyed a range of activities including visiting famous landmarks, exploring museums plus so much more!

During the jam-packed five-day trip, students visited locations such as the Brooklyn Bridge, the Empire State Building, the 9/11 Memorial and SUMMIT One Vanderbilt to name a few!

Students also had the opportunity to visit a range of other exciting locations based on their current studies including the United Nations Headquarters, the Edge Observation Deck and the Museum of the Moving Image.

Programme Leader Jamie Harrison, who has been running the trip for twelve years added:

“The New York trip is an excellent educational experience which enables our students to visit one of the most famous cities in the world.

The visit provides students with an excellent opportunity to explore the culture and visit sights tailored to their current studies.

The college has been running the trips for over 30 years and this is the twelfth year running it myself. The trip sells out extremely quickly and we are offering it to our first-year students shortly.”

Not only were students able to visit some extremely popular locations, but they were also able to immerse themselves in the culture whilst also having some free time to explore the city.

Media student Ariana Ioan said:

“The trip was very well planned – it is a city that has a lot to offer so being able to see so much of it in only five days was great!”New York

Reflecting on her time at the 9/11 museum, Ariana added:

“Being able to find out and understand the history behind it, seeing photos of those involved and the news from the day it happened, even though it was emotional, was all very interesting and intriguing.”

Media student Darcey Bowen said:

“It is an amazing trip where you see and learn so much. It is definitely worth every penny as every day is packed with new and different things.

The trip was well thought through and put together in a great way to ensure our days were as full as they could be to make sure we were able to do everything we wanted to do.”

A Level student James Hudson-Hall added:

“The Museum of the Moving Image far surpassed my expectations and had very fun activities and exhibits – the Jim Henson exhibition was a highlight of the trip.

The trip itself really was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I’d highly recommend going.”

It is always great to get such positive feedback from our students and staff and plans for the next trip are already underway!
