Mexico 2024

HSDC proudly marks a milestone year with the successful completion of its third educational trip to Mexico.

Twelve hard-working students from both HSDC Havant and Alton College took part in the third consecutive Turing Scheme-funded trip to Mexico.

The Turing Scheme, a UK government initiative, aims to provide life-changing opportunities through global experiences and has been a cornerstone of HSDC’s international education strategy.

This year, the trip was particularly significant as it supported STEM students with medical career aspirations and focused on providing inclusive education abroad for a student with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

This incredible educational experience at Anahuac University in Puebla was designed to enrich the educational journey of STEM students, particularly those aspiring to careers in medicine. Students therefore had the unique opportunity to visit both private and public hospitals in Mexico; whilst enjoying in-lab medical training.

Students were also offered a comprehensive view of healthcare systems both in Mexico and the UK. This comparative analysis provided invaluable insights into the scope and reach of the NHS versus the Mexican healthcare system, broadening their understanding and perspective on global healthcare practices.

A significant focus of this trip was the support and inclusion of a student with Special Educational Needs. To ensure this student could fully participate in the mobility experience, HSDC worked closely with a local university in Mexico to make necessary adaptations.

This included creating accessible accommodations tailored to the student’s requirements, ensuring that they could engage fully in all activities. The Anahuac University’s efforts in modifying facilities underscored the importance of inclusivity and the commitment to providing equal opportunities for all students.

Julio Carrillo, Turing Coordinator at HSDC, expressed his pride in the achievements of this year’s Turing Scheme trip adding:

“We are immensely proud of our students and staff for their commitment and hard work. This trip has provided our students with unparalleled learning experiences and has reinforced our dedication to inclusivity and excellence in education.

The adaptations made for our SEN student highlight our commitment to ensuring that every student, regardless of their needs, can benefit from these incredible opportunities.”

HSDC is looking forward to continuing its tradition of excellence in international education as the positive impact of these trips is evident in the personal and academic growth of the students, and HSDC remains committed to providing such transformative opportunities in the future.
