Colleges Week 2025: HSDC Helping To Build An NHS Fit For The Future

March 6, 2025

It’s the final day of Colleges Week 2025! It’s been absolutely fantastic to shine a light on some of the incredible things that HSDC has been doing to shape brighter futures for students, staff, and the wider community.

Friday 7 March is a chance to celebrate the amazing things that Colleges around the country are doing to help build a National Health Service fit for the future. The NHS is an amazing institution, and it is crucial that as the UK population continues to age, it remains fit for purpose.

Colleges are one of the most important links between the NHS and the community, with 2023/24 data showing that there were over 150,000 enrolments linked to health and social care. HSDC plays a big part in this link, offering a variety of courses to prepare its learners for a career in the health and social care sector.

In particular, the T Level in Health & Nursing provides students with a vast range of skills and experience that are crucial for working in the NHS. The unique combination of technical and classroom-based learning, along with work experience, makes the T Level an invaluable qualification for any aspiring NHS worker to have.

Lucy studied the Health and Nursing T Level at HSDC, saying:

“My placement was so helpful! It allowed me to spend time in so many different departments. This firsthand experience allowed me to improve my knowledge and skills in a real work setting!”

The College is committed to ensuring that its aspiring NHS workers have as authentic an educational experience as possible. For students on these courses, both Alton College and South Downs Campus host incredible facilities that aim to replicate the wards and operating theatres found in so many hospitals up and down the country.

The NHS is the UK’s biggest employer, and it is vital that colleges like HSDC continue to play a major role in preparing the workers of the future for a career in health and social care.

As well as this, HSDC is promoting healthier lifestyles through its Be Active programme. This offers students across all three campuses to participate in a wide range of both individual and team sports! A healthier nation relieves pressure on the NHS, ultimately allowing it to function more efficiently and provide a greater level of healthcare to those who need it.
