On Thursday 6 March, 20 scholarships were awarded to students at Alton College by the Alton College Foundation (ACF) during the annual Scholarships for Excellence Awards Evening. The ACF is a charity based at Alton College that works with staff to celebrate the success of students and to raise funds for college resources.
These Scholarships for Excellence are funded by the ACF’s Student Support Fund, which aims to award grants to students in recognition of their excellence across both academic and vocational subjects. Since 2002, 440 such scholarships have been awarded, all of which have made a real difference to the education of Alton’s students and the enrichment of the local community.
The scholarships are a truly unique part of studying at Alton, and reflect the College’s commitment to allowing its students to reach their full potential, both inside and outside of the classroom.
This year, the Wessex Arts Theatre at Alton was filled with local business representatives, charities, staff, students of the College and their families, all enjoying an evening of celebration.

“Even after 23 years of awarding scholarships, I am always pleased to see that both applicants and selected scholars continue to be great ambassadors for Alton College.”
Speaking about the range of scholarships on offer this year, Mr Heley said:
“This year we introduced two new scholarships to the selection on offer. A scholarship for drawing sponsored by Mrs Rosemary Andreae and aimed at supporting the excellent A Level Art students who come to the College to join the wonderful Art department, and two scholarships sponsored by the Ellis Campbell Foundation for the Space Technologies Programme, an exciting new programme introduced this year at the College. We are truly grateful that these, and other long-term sponsors, enable us to award such a wide range of scholarships.”
Following the ceremony, Ashley Grute, Assistant Principal for Curriculum at Alton, delivered some closing remarks, thanking the sponsors and wider community for their generosity. Mr Grute praised the outstanding quality of the applicants and congratulated them for their success in receiving the scholarships.
