Students at HSDC recently participated in a fun day of roller skating in the Alton College
sports hall. The event was run by MPSK8, a local company who have a longstanding
partnership with Alton and have run similar sessions at the College before.
Over 100 students were able to enjoy the thrills and joys of roller skating, with four sessions
happening throughout the day. Alton students were coached in general skating and were
even given the chance to play roller hockey.
Paul and Marilyn from MPSK8 are both accredited coaches of roller hockey, allowing them to
pass on their expertise of this very unique sport to students in the local area. They work with
school trusts and local charities in order to deliver these sessions and offer opportunities to
skate for those at all levels.
MPSK8 hires the Alton College sports hall weekly for similar sessions open to the public, as
well as roller discos, highlighting the benefits of their partnership with HSDC.
The skating event was also run in partnership with Alton Lions, a local charity that seeks to
uplift the community by providing funding for opportunities such as these.
The roller skating day was a great success, with the students not only enjoying themselves,
but learning new skills as well!
Sally King, gym supervisor at Alton College, praised the students and MPSK8, saying:
“The coaches were brilliant with the students, especially because some had never skated before. I am very thankful for MPSK8 for running sessions like these, they are truly appreciated.”
Events like these truly highlight Alton College’s strong links with the local community, and the integral role that the College plays in enriching the lives and education of young people.
