A student on the Public & Defence Services course at Alton College has won an award from the Alton College Foundation.
Joshua Thomas is a first-year PDS student, and won the ACF’s 2025 Award for Skills in Land-Based Outdoor Adventurous Activities. This particular award is given out annually in recognition of fantastic proficiency, leadership, professionalism and personal development in the exciting yet demanding field of outdoor adventurous activities.
Over the past academic year, Joshua has excelled in his course and demonstrated a true commitment to developing his skills in outdoor adventurous activities, making him a worthy recipient of this award.
The award was sponsored by the ACF’s Director, Mike Baker, a long-time supporter of the College’s PDS course. The Foundation itself plays a crucial role in supporting Alton’s students by funding scholarships and providing assistance to those who need it.
Joshua received the award at HSDC’s annual Pass Off Parade, a cherished tradition of the College that allows PDS students to showcase the culmination of their hard work and rigorous physical training. Families, friends, lecturers and guests of honour were all in attendance.
Alongside Joshua, two other PDS students were presented with awards for their commitment to their studies, and all three recipients will also receive monetary rewards from the ACF for their hard work and dedication.
Joshua has proved himself to be a model student at Alton College and is the embodiment of HSDC’s values of kindness, respect, inclusivity and success. Everybody at the College is incredibly proud of Joshua’s achievements, and can’t wait to see where second year takes him.
