HSDC Welcomes New Students With Freshers’ Fairs

September 19, 2025

New students at HSDC were welcomed in style as the College hosted its much anticipated Freshers’ Fair events across its three campuses. These events, held at HSDC Havant, HSDC South Downs and Alton College brought together students, staff and local community organisations to provide a fantastic start to the academic year.

ACAN have a long-standing partnership with Alton College.

From new clubs and societies to local environmental initiatives, students at HSDC were encouraged to engage with as wide an array of opportunities as possible, enhancing their college experience both inside and outside the classroom.

There was an impressive line-up of exhibitors, offering a true range of opportunities for everyone! These fairs also provided new students with an ideal setting to make friends with like-minded learners, and to get involved with wider college life.

Alton Climate Action Network (ACAN) had a stall at Alton College, speaking to students about the important community work they do to tackle the climate crisis. ACAN has consistently worked alongside Alton College, making outreach events like the Fresher’s Fair important for maintaining and strengthening this partnership in the future.

A variety of gym providers were also in attendance across all three campuses, speaking to students about the importance of a balanced and healthy lifestyle, encouraging them to get involved where they can.

Various local gyms were in attendance, promoting a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

Other attendees included Hampshire Police, the NHS’ Sexual Health Clinic, Treloar’s College and the Catch 22 service for substance misuse. All of these organisations play a crucial role in their communities, making it fantastic to see HSDC’s students take an active interest in their day-to-day activities.

As well as this, there were lots of internal stalls at the fairs, including signups for the Student Union, sports club and other societies. These are great ways for students to get involved in college life, and it was amazing to see such a strong amount of signups.

The Student Union in particular is a crucial way for students to have their voices heard and shape how they want the college to be. Extracurricular activities were also very popular at the fairs, with students themselves running the stalls for societies such as Dungeons & Dragons and sports clubs.

Overall, the Freshers’ Fairs at HSDC are a reminder that college life is so much more than the classroom, but is in fact an opportunity to explore your passions, volunteer in the community and make lifelong friends.
