Remembrance Service Held At Alton College

November 11, 2025

On Tuesday 11 November 2025, students and staff at Alton College gathered together to mark Remembrance Day with an incredibly moving parade and service.

Every year, the College community comes together as we remember those who have sacrificed so much in service of their country. Staff and students watched on as Alton College’s Uniformed Public Defence Service students marched and stood to attention in memory of the fallen.

The parade was led by CCF cadets Zoe Gibson and Matthew Craig, who handed a wreath to Alton College’s Assistant Principal, Ashley Grute, to lay at the feet of a statue of a soldier on the College quad. After Mr Grute paid his respects, there was a reading of John McCrae’s ‘In Flanders Fields’ by engineering lecturer Malcolm Buchanan.

Student Elvina Bibomba read The Ode To Remembrance, followed by The Last Post. At 11am, Alton College joined the rest of the country in observing a two-minute silence of remembrance and reflection for all those who have sacrificed so much for their country.

After this moment of silence, Mr Grute thanked everyone in attendance, and invited other staff and students to pay their respects as the PDS students once again demonstrated their discipline by marching away as the College community looked on.

The Remembrance Service was a poignant reminder of the freedom we hold thanks to the sacrifices of our brave service members.

We Will Remember Them.
