It’s the second day of Colleges Week 2026, and today, HSDC is proud to celebrate the incredible range of courses available to young people aged 16-18 across the College’s three campuses! With a long-standing commitment to student excellence, personal development and future readiness, HSDC ensures that every learner leaves College equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to progress to higher education, apprenticeships or the workplace.

A Levels: Academic Excellence with Room to Explore

HSDC’s extensive A Level provision across both Havant Campus and Alton College provides young people with the opportunity to study a range of subjects that they love, whilst developing transferable skills highly valued by both universities and employers. Delivered by expert teachers, A Levels at HSDC encourage critical thinking, academic curiosity and independent study – all essential preparation for life at university and beyond.

HSDC’s most recent A Level results showcase a real commitment to outstanding excellence in this area, with the College recording an incredible 98.2% pass rate, whilst half of all students achieved the top grades of A*-B! Students studying A Levels at HSDC benefit from tailored academic support, world-class careers advice and a curriculum that provides them with the analytical and evaluative skills needed to thrive in the future.

Beatrice Vickery achieved exceptional A Level results in French, Spanish and History during her time at Alton College, helping her to progress onto a French & Spanish Degree at the University of Oxford. Reflecting on her time studying A Levels at Alton, Beatrice said:

“My teachers at Alton College provided me with great support during the university application process, especially during my preparation for Oxford’s interviews. All three of my A Levels have provided me with lifelong skills, including analytical thinking, as well as all the doors that open from being fluent in multiple languages!”

Vocational Courses: Hands-On Learning for Real Careers

For students who learn best through practical experience, HSDC’s variety of vocational programmes offer a clear and supportive route into industry. From full-time vocational courses, to part-time programmes equivalent to one A Level, there’s a vocational option for everyone across all three campuses. These courses combine classroom learning with hands-on skills development, ensuring students become work-ready and confident.

HSDC’s strong partnerships make these vocational courses even more successful, with many of the programmes being accredited by University of the Arts London (UAL), or supported by the South Coast Institute of Technology. From the creative industries to engineering, health, sport and business, vocational learners at HSDC gain sector-specific knowledge and experience that prepares them for employment, apprenticeships or further study.

Malia Lodge recently completed the Level 3 Musical Theatre Diploma at South Downs, and spoke fondly of her time on the vocational course:

“The teachers are so lovely and really do try and push you to do your best here, but not in an overwhelming way at all – they just want you to do your best. The course is structured in a way that allows you to build very close bonds with them, which makes the learning even better! I’ve really found my people on this course.”

T Levels: Workplace Readiness

In 2020, HSDC was announced to be the first College in Hampshire to implement T Levels into its curriculum. These dynamic qualifications are equivalent to three A Levels, and split a student’s learning between the classroom (80%) and a substantial work placement (20%), ensuring that they leave HSDC with both the technical skills and workplace readiness needed to thrive in modern industry.

Students can study T Levels at both Alton College and South Downs Campus, and benefit from HSDC’s extensive employer engagement programme for their fantastic work placements. HSDC was recently named by the DfE as the best provider of T Levels in the region, with excellent student outcomes being seen in each subject. Most recently, HSDC’s Early Years T Level saw incredible success here, with students recording a flawless 100% pass rate, whilst almost half achieved Merits and Distinctions.

Jamie Harrison is a student at Alton College, and recently progressed from the Level 2 ‘Pre’ T Level in Engineering onto the full Level 3 qualification. Speaking about how these courses have helped prepare him for the world of work, Jamie said:

“Taking the Pre-T Level was great to build my confidence and make me comfortable in a working environment. Now that I’ve progressed onto the full T Level, my problem-solving skills have grown massively, meaning I feel ready to adapt to more complex problems that I might face in the workplace.”

Across every course type, HSDC remains committed to nurturing ambition, building confidence and developing well-rounded young people. Students benefit from an extensive enrichment programme including societies, clubs, sports and leadership opportunities, all of which are designed to broaden horizons and deepen personal growth.

Careers guidance, university preparation and the College’s employer engagement programme supplement HSDC’s learning outside of the classroom, ensuring every student feels supported and inspired as they take their next steps.

HSDC is a steadfast champion of a high-quality education that empowers its students to achieve their full potential, not just in their academic and professional lives, but in their personal lives as well.
